<procdesc>The number and distribution of sampling points was determined according to the USGS/NPS Vegetation Mapping protocols. A stratified random sampling approach was used, distributing the sampling effort across the thirty-two vegetation associations. Five hundred and twenty-four sampling points attributed with vegetation association names were created using the random point generator in ArcGIS. Each accuracy assessment point was then located in the field using a Trimble Geo XM GPS unit during June and July 2006.

The accuracy assessment plots shapefile was altered to create a shapefile suitable for public distribution. The X, Y coordinates for each plot that contains a rare plant species that could be vulnerable to collection were altered to a centroid N 4187044, E 500289. A field named "crd_alt" was added to the shapefile attribute table; the value for this field is "yes" if the plot coordinates were altered.</procdesc>

<procdesc>Three new attributes were added to this data set to reflect NVC determinations made from some the map class data, primary, and secondary species. When the determination was made to the AA point, the nvc el code was included and a call as to the "certainty" of the determination was made. In the case where multple NVC associations may fall in a single map class the call was subjective based on the the data at hand. If there was a 1:1 crosswalk to the nvc association the call of certain was always given.</procdesc>
