These data were collected specifically for the vegetation mapping project. Complete metadata for both field data collection and accuracy assessment data can be obtained from http://www.usgs.gov/core_science_systems/csas/vip/parks/cure.html metadata links. Field photos are associated with each point. Fifty-nine plot or observation locations had additional fuels data collected. Plots were collected to characterize the vegetation at Curecanti National Recreation Area, while accuracy assessment plots were visited to verify the mapper's interpretation of the vegetation communities. The intended use of all data in the park's GIS library is to support diverse park activities including planning, management, maintenance, research, and interpretation. Field photos are hotlinked in the data, but the path names will need to be updated. GIS personnel verified all features and attributes. There are no duplicate features present. This data contains all the observation point data, all the plot points and all the accuracy assessment points visited for the Curecanti NRA Vegetation Mapping Project. This data was collected using recreational grade GPS receivers (generally Garmins). A 'dop' or meters error reading was recorded when applicable. Recreational GPS receivers generally have horizontal errors of 3-15 meters (less than 40 meters). GPS accuracy varies for each plot. Error values were recorded on the plot form. Field data collection was accomplished with the use of GPS units. Field crews used their judgment for the placement of plot and observation locations.
