    <descript>
Color aerial photography was collected, in stereo with 60 percent forward overlap and 40 percent side overlap on 6/18/02 and 6/19/02. The flight height was 20,000 feet above mean terrain. Airborne GPS data were collected. The original film was scanned at 21 microns to create pixels of approximately .84 meters. USGS National Elevation Dataset (NED) grid data were used to create digital orthophotos.
      <purpose>The aerial photography and orthophotos will be used for scientific research.</purpose>

      <attraccr>Orthophotos were created from the aerial photography using USGS DEM data and aero triangulation data. The orthophotography was produced to meet National Map Accuracy Standards for 1:12,000 scale map products. The X, Y, Z, omega, phi, and kappa for each photograph were calculated by Horizons, Inc. Airborne GPS data were collected during the photography mission for each exposure station. The GPS event is at the photo-center of each exposure. The final adjustment of this block was solved using Erio Technologies ALBANY software. ALBANY is a simultaneous least squares bundle adjustment, which is designed for use with airborne GPS.</attraccr>

Both the base and emulsion sides of the film were cleaned using a tacky roller system prior to scanning. Color adjustment was achieved by visually matching the tone, contrast, and brightness to the original film. Each scanned image was checked computationally for missing data. Quality Control Procedures for orthophoto production: After individual orthophotos were mosaiced into a regional database, the resulting orthophoto composite was visually inspected for tone balance and image distortion. In areas of image distortion, more suitable orthophoto imagery was inserted, when possible. The final orthophotos were visually inspected for accuracy and consistency. Some areas of the final orthophoto imagery are blurred due to the extreme terrain and/or the accuracy of the USGS DEM data.</procdesc>
